Jim Feuille
Jim has more than 20 years experience in investment banking and is currently
a partner at Crosslink Capital focusing on software/services investments.
Most recently, he was Global Head of Technology Investment Banking at UBS
Warburg. Previously, he was Chief Operating Officer at Volpe Brown Whelan &
Company. Jim was also Head of Technology Investment Banking at Robertson
Stephens. Jim holds a BA in Chemistry from Dartmouth College and a JD/MBA
from Stanford University.
Peter Gotcher
Peter is an independent investor focusing on investments in digital media technology companies. From 1999 through 2003 he was a Venture Partner with Redpoint Ventures, a Silicon Valley venture capital partnership. From 1997-1999 he held the same position with Institutional Venture Partners. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Avnera, Line6, ZING and Dolby Laboratories (NYSE:DLB). Over the past few years Mr. Gotcher has also served on the Board of Directors of MusicMatch (acquired by Yahoo!), Onebox.com (acquired by Phone.com), iGo Corporation (acquired by Mobility), ViaPhone (acquired by Extended Systems), Avid Technology, MyPlay (acquired by the Bertelsmann Music Group), and Pacific Microsonics (acquired by Microsoft). Mr. Gotcher founded Digidesign, Inc. in 1984 and served as its President, CEO, and Chairman through the company's Initial Public Offering in December of 1993, and subsequent merger with Avid Technology in January of 1995. Mr. Gotcher served as the General Manager of Digidesign and Executive Vice President of Avid until May 1996. Previously, he worked for Dolby Laboratories and holds a BA from the University of California at Berkeley. Peter is also an active recording and performing musician.
Robert M. Kavner
Bob is a private investor and has been active since 1995 as a venture capital investor and board member of several technology-related companies including EarthLink, idealab!, Ticketmaster-CitySearch, Jupiter Media Metrix, and Blue Arc. Prior to its acquisition by Yahoo! in 2003, he was the Chairman of the Board of Overture Services (formerly GoTo). In the late 1990s, Bob was CEO of On Command Corporation, a provider of in-room video systems to the lodging industry. From 1984 to 1994, Bob held a number of senior level positions at AT&T. He was CEO of the Multimedia Products and Services Group and was a member of the Executive Committee of AT&T. Prior to that, he was President of the Data Systems Division and Chairman of the Unix Systems Laboratory. Bob was Chief Financial Officer of the Corporation for his first four years at AT&T. During the 18 years prior to joining AT&T, Bob was a Partner in Coopers & Lybrand and was Co-Chairman of the firm's information industry practice. Bob serves on the Board of Directors of FleetBoston Financial, EarthLink, Inc., Jupiter Media Metrix, Overture Systems, and idealab! He previously has been a member of the Board of Sun Microsystems, Olivetti, Philips Telecommunications and Duracell. Bob attended Adelphi University and received a B.S. degree in 1965.
Joe Kennedy
Chief Executive Officer & President, Pandora Media
Joe Kennedy is the company's CEO and resident pop music junkie. When he isn't running the company (and yes, while he is running it too) he likes to listen to Pandora stations based on Train's "Lincoln Avenue" and Sarah McLachlan's "Adia." Joe has played the piano for more than 30 years. According to Joe, most of that time has been spent attempting to master Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue."
Joe joined the company in 2004 following a successful five-year stint at E-LOAN, where he was President and Chief Operating Officer. From 1995 to 1999, he was the Vice President of Sales, Service and Marketing for Saturn Corporation, which he grew to over $4 billion in revenue and established as the top brand for customer satisfaction in the auto industry. Joe joined the initial start-up team at Saturn four months after its founding as a marketing manager and held positions of increasing marketing responsibility over the course of his 11-year tenure there. Joe holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Princeton University, where he dabbled in music theory and learned to compose his own Gregorian chants.
Larry Kubal
Partner, Labrador Ventures
Mr. Kubal has invested in seed and early stage information technology companies for the last 15 years. He is a founder of Labrador Ventures and serves as a managing partner of Labrador Ventures II, III, IV and V. Mr. Kubal is the Labrador representative with portfolio companies Aperto Networks, Proficient Systems, Soligence, and Teraburst Networks. In addition to his investment experience, Mr. Kubal was a management consultant with Booz, Allen & Hamilton, a global strategy and technology consulting firm. Prior to consulting, Mr. Kubal worked extensively in computerized database publishing for McGraw-Hill Publications Company and for the Academy for Educational Development. Mr. Kubal was also a founding executive with a venture-backed PC software company, Avalanche Technologies, ultimately acquired by Microsoft. Mr. Kubal received his undergraduate degree from Duke University (1974), cum laude with departmental distinction, and his M.B.A. from Stanford's Graduate School of Business (1982).
Larry Marcus
Managing Director, Walden Venture Capital
Mr. Marcus has 18 years of consumer technology and media experience. He formerly worked as a Research Analyst at Deutsche Bank, Alex. Brown and Robertson Stephens; sectors that he covered included interactive entertainment, consumer and business software, cable infrastructure, New Media, and the Internet. While at Deutsche Bank, Alex. Brown and Robertson Stephens, Mr. Marcus has led numerous IPOs and follow-on offerings for companies such as CBS MarketWatch, Terayon, Women.com, Edmark, Maxis, Wink, @Home, and Softnet. His coverage included Intuit, Electronic Arts, Sierra On-line, Brøderbund, CNET, Activision, Learning Company, Softkey, Acclaim, RealNetworks, General Instrument, Scientific Atlanta, Gemstar, and OpenTV, among others. Mr. Marcus was also an early backer of Netflix and Virage. In addition to Pandora, he currently serves on the boards of MeeVee, Comedy.com, Real Girls Media (Observer), and Telekenex. Mr. Marcus received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley. When not searching for new investment ideas or helping portfolio companies, he is an avid drummer.
Tim Westergren
Chief Strategy Officer & Founder, Pandora Media
A musician's musician, Tim Westergren is obsessed with helping talented emerging artists connect with the music fans most likely to appreciate their music. He founded Pandora and now serves as its Chief Strategy Officer.
Tim is an award-winning composer, an accomplished musician and a record producer with 10 years of experience in the music industry. He has recorded with independent labels, managed artists, scored feature films, produced albums, and performed extensively. His main instrument is the piano, but over the years he has played the bassoon, drums and clarinet and his musical background spans such genres as rock, blues, jazz and classical music.
Prior to co-founding Pandora, Tim owned and operated Nightfly Studios, a commercial digital recording studio. Tim received his B.A. from Stanford University, where he studied computer acoustics and recording technology. He once had the privilege of studying under the legendary Stan Getz, whose words, "Remember, it's not the mode... it's the mood," still ring true.
Doug Barry
Managing Director, Selby Venture Partners
Doug has more than 20 years of investment and operating experience in the consumer technology and media industries. He has held a variety of senior management positions in both private and public companies including Electronic Arts, Turner Broadcasting and Liberate Technologies. He has also consulted to several consumer technology companies including Tivo, and was an early seed investor in Explore Technology (Leapfrog) and Panopticon (Kana). Doug is a member of the Board of Directors of BigFix, Clairvoyante Laboratories, Sharpcast, Size Technology, and VisageMobile. Doug holds a B.S. from U.C. Berkeley and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.
Brian Steel
Chairman, Pandora International
Brian most recently held the position of President, International, Yahoo!
Search Marketing. He was with Yahoo! for three years, following its 2003
acquisition of Overture (previously GoTo.com), bringing 20 years of
management experience to oversee a billion-dollar division with operations
in 20 countries comprising nearly 1,000 employees. Prior to Overture/Yahoo!,
Brian was a Managing Director of Idealab, which created GoTo.com, and also
President and CEO of Idealab Silicon Valley. While associated with Idealab,
Brian also served on the boards of directors for a number of Idealab
companies, including Airwave Wireless, Cooking.com, Cars Direct, Commission
Junction, Desktop.tv, eVoice, Omnilux, Scan Mobile, Sameday Technologies,
and Spun.com, as well as non-Idealab companies such as Discern
Communications and Swell.com. Before joining Idealab, Brian served as
president, chief operating officer, and director for On Command Corp., the
world's largest provider of information and entertainment services to the
lodging industry. Previously, Brian held senior executive positions at SBC
Communications and Shearson Lehman Brothers. Brian holds a B.A. in Economics
and conducted graduate work in corporate strategy at Duke University,
international marketing and finance at the Pacific Asian Management
Institute, and negotiation at Harvard University.
